About the area

What it's like to live here.

Schiebroek has the highest percentage of green space of all Rotterdam neighbourhoods. Bergse Bos to the east, Wilhelminapark at the heart, and the Rotte running alongside. For families with dogs or cyclists: paradise.

The detached and semi-detached homes on Larikslaan, Berkenlaan, and Molenlaan are sought-after — often 1920s to 1950s, generous gardens, sometimes up to 1,000 m² plot. Asking prices €795k-€1.2 million.

The 'gold coast' within Schiebroek is the area around Wilhelminalaan and Berlagestraat — Berlage build from the 1920s, beautiful interior gardens, often with original wooden panelling and detail. For architecture lovers a real find.

The neighbourhood has its own identity — not village, not city, somewhere in between. Many residents grew up here and stay for generations. For newcomers that means: warm welcome, but you'll need to take the initiative.

What you usually ask

Schiebroek questions.

How is the neighbourhood for expats?
+
For expats wanting more peace and green than Kop van Zuid offers, Schiebroek is ideal. Note: for international schools you'll travel 15-20 minutes — those aren't in the neighbourhood itself.
Is Schiebroek more expensive than Hillegersberg?
+
Usually 5-10% cheaper. The neighbourhoods are adjacent and share many characteristics — Hillegersberg has that extra 'village' aura and Linker Rottekade as hot spot. For green and peace per €, Schiebroek is more attractive.
How is the Rotte for families?
+
The Rotte route is wonderful for cycling and running, connecting to the Vlinderstrik nature reserve. Many children learn to swim at the Bergse-Plas beach — a 12-min cycle from most addresses.
